In most records it is said that J.P. Lovell Arms Co. was establisched in 1840. Date would appaer in company documents of 1888 and later. I am sceptical about this information. Lovell worked for A.B. Fairbanks from 1833 to 1841. In 1840 Lovell got a part of the A.B. Fairbanks shop (Fairbanks & Lovell). This company existed only for a very short time. When Fairbanks died in 1841 the company war renamed Grover & Lovell with Lovell as juior partner. Lovell became fully control of that company not before 1844 or 1845. Therefore I can not believe that J.P. Lovell Arms Co. could habe been incorporated in 1840. I believe the correct date would be 1844 or 1845 or even later. See Lovell, J. P or Faibanks, A. B.
